Metheringham Football Club is one of the oldest clubs in Lincolnshire with mention of them in the Lincolnshire Chronicle of 1885. A history of the club is presently being compiled by Secretary Pete Ford and can be viewed here or on the club's new website at www.metheringhamfc01.co.uk

For many years the club only ran senior sides playing on a Saturday although there is evidence of their being Metheringham Junior sides as far back as 1911 as the club met (Senior XI again Juniors in a village trophy tie in 1913-14 with the Seniors winning 5-0. Today the club has one team playing Saturday football at local level (website http://lincolnsaturdayfootballleague.co.uk/ ). With the advent of Sunday football the club entered a team in the Lincoln League in the1965/66 season (website - www.lincolnsundayleague.co.uk). Now the club runs three senior sides in these leagues. As time progressed youth football also became a part of the local scene and the club first introduced an Under 11 side back in the 1986/87. Now the club has team at most ages from U8 to U18’s (websites – www.midlincs.com and www.lifl.co.uk )

The Club is proud that it provided a sporting outlet across the age spectrum and is always looking for new players and committee members and helpers. One ambition of the club is to form a Girl’s side but there never seems sufficient girls of a similar age to fulfil this dream. Perhaps in the future, if “ladies” from a wider area are interested this can be achieved.

Much fund-raising is undertaken by the club throughout the year, as can be appreciated, to run on average a dozen sides under the umbrella of the club. This includes fortnightly Bingo Sessions in the village hall for cash prizes (details of dates regularly in the local press and on the village notice board). Any company or business interested in sponsoring the club would be very welcome and they can contact the Secretary.

Back in May 2000 the football club became members of MACLA (Metheringham Area Community Leisure Association) and like the rest of its members the club is striving to improve the facilities in our area, with new Dressing Rooms and Pavilion a priority at the present. As part of the club’s push for this project they introduced an annual £5 signing on fee amply named “Buy a Brick” with monies from this going into the MACLA coffers. To date money donated by the club totals around £2,000
