This year’s Fayre and Feast to be held in the village on
Saturday 22 October.
This year’s Fayre and Feast to be held in the village on Saturday
22 October is to celebrate the Bi-centenary of the Battle of Trafalgar,
when on Monday 21 October 1805 Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson defeated a
combined French and Spanish fleet of Cape Trafalgar on the south-west
coast of Spain. This was a major British victory and effectively put
an end to the hopes of Napoleon’s invasion of Britain by his Grand
army. It gave England naval dominance of the Channel, the Atlantic ports
and the Mediterranean for the remaining ten years of the Napoleonic War.
Nelson was mortally wounded in the battle and lays at rest in St Paul’s
Cathedral.
The Parish Council considered the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar
to be a fitting theme for this year’s event and consequently a programme
of entertainment and displays is being organised.
Again the main village High Street between Fen Road and Drury Street will be
closed to all vehicular traffic (except for emergency and essential services)
during the afternoon and late evening, where it is planned for some 70 market
stalls to be sited, along with street entertainers, side-shows and a large
pleasure fairground in the Star and Garter Paddock. The event will open to
the public at 2.00 pm and will close at approximately 9.30 pm. Following a
parade along the High Street, commencing from Drury Street at 2.15 pm, the
Official Opening Ceremony will take place at the Village Cross at 2.30 pm.
Some of the highlights along the high Street will be the Starlite Twirlers,
the Lincoln Sea Cadet Band, Pauline Reader Dancers and local band “Touch
and Go”. A craft fayre and displays will be held in the village Hall
and St. Wifrid’s Church and the Methodist Chapel will again be opened.
Anyone wishing to participate should contact the Parish Council
