MACLA Briefing

Here we are with issue Number 3 of your newsletter.  The interest has been so great that we've had to add another 4 pages to get everything in, and we've printed an extra 250 copies to cope with the demand.

It has surprised me how much activity there is in and around Metheringham  Take a look at the list of contacts on the back page to get some idea  of the variety of clubs and groups that we enjoy.  And the list is by no means complete (which prompts me to remind absent organisers to let me have some details for future issues).

But these organisations don't happen by magic.  They need helpers and members.  I make no excuse for the fact that quite a few of this month's articles make a plea for people to help out.  a lot of people doing a little bit is better than a handful of people trying to cope with everything.

There are some new features this month as well.  Look out for the MACLA Fun Quiz and the first "Points of View".  Metheringham Garden club have sent us some current gardening tips, and an anonymous observer has submitted an item about the bird life that's around at the moment.

Let us know what you like - and what you don't. Its your newsletter, and we want you to find it interesting as well as informative.

In March, MACLA held a public meeting in Metheringham Village to discuss our strategy for developing leisure facilities.  there was virtually unanimous support for the idea that we should strive to improve our facilities that we already have, rather than looking for a "Greenfield" site to develop from scratch.

To take the strategy further, MACLA has now formed a working group, which will work with Metheringham Parish Council's Forward Planning Group.  But we're here to support the surrounding villages as well, so share your ideas with us.

By the time you read this we shall have held our first Annual general Meeting (or AGM as everybody calls it).  We like to think that we have achieved quite a lot in what is a relatively short time.  Nevertheless there is much to be done, and none of us on the MACLA committee is being complacent about that.

Why not sign up as a MACLA supporter and attend next year's AGM?  it won't cost you a penny (unless you want it to), and it need only take two minutes of your time.  But it will help enormously when we are bidding for grants if we can prove that MACLA has widespread community support.
