OPUS 3

Metheringham Hand-In-Hand Club

Are you looking to organise a special evening for your fund-raising or social event?

On the last Saturday of April your Editor was privileged to attend a concert by Opus 3 in Blankney Church.

Opus 3 comprises Dennis Channon (baritone/piano), Gill West (soprano) and Jane Foster (flute/piano). Dennis and Gill are father and daughter. Jane lives in Metheringham and has introduced music to many local youngsters.

The trio began performing together some two years ago and, finding themselves increasingly in demand, felt that a name was needed – so “Opus 3” was founded following a successful appearance at the Mayor of North Hykeham’s charity Gala in February last year.

The music offered by Opus 3 ranges widely from light classical to a speciality “Showtime” comprising songs from West End and Broadway musicals, arranged for voice(s) and/or flute with piano.

Opus 3 is available for functions large or small, for entertainment and fund-raising events. So, if you want music from Bach to the Beatles and everything(!) in between, contact Dennis on 378446 or Jane on 321889 to discuss your requirements.

Metheringham hand-In-Hand Club is a club for physically handicapped people who live at home.

The club meet in Metheringham Chapel schoolroom, once a fortnight on a Friday, between 2pm and 4pm.There, members can have a chat, play dominoes, bingo, and take part in the raffle. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided.

During the Summer months outings are arranged (approximately one per month).

Transport can be arranged for anyone who needs picking up from their home.

Although we are based in Metheringham, the club is open to anyone living in the area between Scopwick and Branston/Washingborough.

For further information, ring (01526) 322189 or 320360.

Healthy Eating?

With the growing trend towards “organic” food, more companies are now importing naturally grown fruits, nuts and other products from relatively inaccessible corners of the world. Whereas these items were once difficult to get hold of, they are now to be found at various outlets in our own area.
If you’re looking for something different, they might be worth a try. As well as possibly doing your health a favour, you would be helping poorer countries to develop a sustainable economy.
