Following the success of the Easter sports scheme 'On your doorstep' in
Metheringham village Hall, North Kesteven district Council is planning a 5-day
event on Metheringham Playing Fields during the school Summer holiday.
The Council will provide organisational support, advertising and equipment,
but will need the help of local adult volunteers.
On each day the planned activities will take place from 10am to 3pm.
mornings will probably be devoted to team games such as rounders, baseball and
dodge ball. In the afternoons there will be the opportunity for soccer
skills coaching, American football, athletics and cycling.
If there is sufficient local support and enthusiasm, the District Council
would like to see this established as an annual event. But it does depend
on the support of parents and others.
All to often we hear the cry of 'I wish there were more for them to do during
the summer holiday'. Now there is an opportunity to do something about
it. If there are enough volunteers, the individual commitment would be
quite small.
