MACLA Newsletter no. 4 - Autumn 2001

Editor’s (very little) Bit
Would You Like to Learn How to put a Newsletter Together?

This quarter’s Newsletter is bigger than ever. We’ve had to expand to 28 pages to fit everything in.

Despite that, it’s still free of charge to our readers, and there’s only this tiny space left for me to fit in an editorial!

Many thanks to those of you who submitted items for publication. We next go out just before Christmas, and I’d welcome Items for that Newsletter by the 7th of November - from anybody and everybody. If there is enough affordable space, your item will be printed. (If we run out of space, I shall work on the “first come, first served“ principle).

A big “Thank you” as well to our advertisers, whose money makes this all possible.

You will see that there is a lot going on in the Area. But if I’ve missed you or your organisation out, let me know about it. (Phone number and address are on the back page).

Over the last 15 months the Newsletter Team has learnt a lot. Everything from selling advertising space to keeping accounts, gathering articles, desk top publishing, negotiating with printers, and distribution.

We would be happy to pass on this knowledge, especially if it helps some young person who is contemplating a career in Media. Maybe some practical experience would be a suitable project to complement your studies?

Our computer software is professional standard “Adobe PageMaker 6.5 Plus” and we have an excellent Notebook computer with all of the necessary peripherals.

Also, there is a lot more to the non-computer side of things than you might imagine!

If you’re interested, phone the Editor! (See back page)

PS - I’d be happy to hear from you even if you’re neither young nor studying!

Metheringham Bowls Club News

As we go to press, there are a couple of weeks to go to the end of the outdoor bowls season.  Metheringham teams lead the City Evening Section B League and are in second place in the Lincoln & District Premier league.  In the Lincoln & District Knock-out competitions, Metheringham won the Hospital Cup and were runners-up in the handicap Cup.  Significant successes for the teams involved.
The Wednesday Afternoon team are well place in the Woodhall league.  While the other teams are not doing quite as well, they continue to provide competitive bowling for those club members that want it.
There was success at the Lincoln & District finals Day on 12th August when the Club's youngest member, Andrew Creasy, gained a memorable victory by taking the Under 25's Singles title.  Congratulations to him.
The Club's other representatives at the Finals unfortunately failed to win through.  However, Phil Garrick got as far as the semi-finals of the singles and Roy Creasey, neil Parker and Andrew Creasey lost by a single shot to the last bowl of the last end of the Triples Final. So Near!
Finally a reminder that the date of the Annual general Meeting is 9th October, starting at 7:15pm.
The Metheringham Bowls Club contact is John Browett on 321967
