Since the First Meeting in June Metheringham and Dunston First Responders has gone from strength to strength. We now have eight trained first responders and several more volunteers to be trained. We have had some generous cash donations, held a Garage sale which raised £170 and are planning a 70s night and several other fund raisers in the near future.

Various people have offered help in other ways, for example :-

Cement mixer and trailer hire booked through us - 50% to Metheringham and Dunston L.I.V.E.S First Responders

A telephone service with 30% discount and free local calls - £10 donation per customer

An electric golf buggy for sale with £150 of the sale price of £1650 coming to us

For any of the above please contact Sue Nunn (01526) 323200

We recently ran a competition with Metheringham and Dunston schools to find a logo for our posters and the winners are Metheringham:Over 8 - Sarah Dean, Under 8 Cody Knight; Dunston:Over 8-Victoria Holden, and Under 8 Oliver Holden.

A First Responder scheme is run by local people for local people. We have only six minutes to get there to provide basic life support. Someone you know will need our help and it may even be you.

For every 1000 people in the area, 1 person will die each year of a heart attack and two more will need help for other life threatening emergencies.A first responder scheme can change this horrific statistic.

Could you help this charity by either becoming a volunteer first responder, making a donation or holding an event such as a coffee morning for us. We must raise £4500 of the £7000 it costs to establish a first responder group; including the defibrillator, basic medical kit, mobile communications and the training.

WANTED! WANTED! WANTED! – Old photos of Metheringham and the surrounding villages.

It has been suggested that a “Then and Now” feature would be popular on the website, especially with the Metheringham exiles. We agree. So, if you’ve any old photos, perhaps tucked away in a corner, of somewhere in the Metheringham area and the way it used to be that you would like to make available to people who visit the website, then dust them off and pass them to any member of MACLA.

Don’t forget to include your name and address, and we’ll make sure that we get them back to you. If you prefer, you can visit our stall at the Metheringham Fayre and Feast in October, or simply contact Jeff on (01526) 323436.

We have just won our second Website Award!

As a result, we are included in a national list of “MY HOME TOWN Quality Websites”. This award is open to people from the whole of the UK who have their own local website about their home town.

New Look

The site has been given a makeover, making it look a little sleeker and a whole lot more consistent. If you haven’t visited us for a while, why not take another look? People are tapping into the site from all over the world……..

Foreign Visitors

Finally, last month a couple from Vancouver, Canada, who had discovered Metheringham through the website, paid our village a visit as a result! (The lady’s maiden name was “Metheringham”, hence the initial interest.) As part of a UK tour they made a special and unannounced daytrip from London, managed to find Sandra Metheringham and then had a whirlwind introduction to the village and its history by Pauline, our librarian (who just happened to be doing some work in the library on a “closed” day), Heather from the History Group, and Jeff our Website manager. It was just by chance that Pauline was able to get in touch with Heather and Jeff on a busy weekday!

Anyway, the whole thing turned out to be a huge success. And all because we’re on the Web!
