Come and Try Barbershop Singing
Metheringham Swimming Pool Association

On Saturday 22nd September 2001 the male and female Lincoln Barbershop harmony singing choruses are holding a free introductory workshop at Lincoln Christ’s Hospital School on Wragby Road, Lincoln.

Anyone who enjoys singing, whatever their experience, is welcome to come along and bring other singers with them, friends or family. It doesn’t matter if their experience is from the shower or the stage, if they enjoy singing and want to develop a natural talent.

Following the afternoon workshop there will be a free concert for all participants and their families and friends.

For more information please contact Linda (01522 884149) or Howard (01522 752648), Pat (01522 882937) or Alan (01673 860366)

===================

Saturday 20th October is Metheringham Feast Day!

Yes, it’s that time of year again, when the main streets of the village will be closed to traffic, and the atmosphere will be buzzing.

This year’s Fayre and Feast will have a Medieval theme, with activity for all age groups over a wide area.

Whilst some details await to be finalised as we go to press, you can get a flavour of what will be happening if you look at the items on pages 14 and 22.

MACLA will have a stand in the Village Hall, where we look forward to speaking to as many of you as possible. See you there!

The Summer has favoured the village pool this year, and few days have been lost to poor weather. During one particularly hot spell, close to 80 people used the pool one afternoon. Conversely, on cool, overcast days only a handful of swimmers appear. Yet the pool is heated and a swim in the open air with clouds overhead is very pleasant.

The sponsored Cross Channel Swim on 9th June 2001 was a great success. 42 swimmers covered a distance equivalent to 51 miles, and raised over £800. The ever-popular It’s a Knockout took place on 8th July 2001, although there were fewer teams this year with alternative Scout and football attractions taking place.

The pool closed for the Summer on 2nd September and now the Winter maintenance programme begins. This means dealing with the troublesome loss of sand from the filter bed into the pool, re-decorating the changing rooms, cutting the hedge and generally clearing away the waste and preparing for next year.

With the Chairman, Secretary and other long-standing members signalling an intention to take less active roles, now is the time to come forward and keep the pool running for the school and village alike. This particularly applies to parents of new schoolchildren, and residents new to the area. The existing committee will be there to assist and advise. There is no intention of letting the pool fold.

Look out for us at the Village Feast in October.
