Metheringham and District Swimming Pool Association
Wow, well how quickly has this year come and gone, it only seems like yesterday that “we” as a new committee were being driven mad with the preparation for getting the swimming pool open for the new season in May. There was a lot of work to be done, tidying up the impact the winter (and the vandals) had on the surrounding area, but we did it, and opened on time!! We then had to keep it going, organising the lifeguard rota’s, keeping the vandals out (not so easy), maintaining the surrounding area’s and lots more that took up a lot of time. We then had our “mini disaster” when the pool water went green due to over exposure from the sunshine, after the covers had been vandalised. This was a mammoth task to put right – emptying the water, cleaning the pool, filling it back up again, twice daily checks for the PH Level and chemicals to make sure it didn’t happen again.
I think I can speak for the rest of the committee when I say, we didn’t really envisage this much work when we volunteered but we are hoping (fingers crossed) that the message is going out to the parents of those youths involved in the mindless acts of vandalism that we will no longer let these incidents go by without action, we know one or two names and if there are any future acts we WILL NOT think twice about prosecuting.
Well onto happier subjects:
The summer came and went with many people once again enjoying the swimming pool, we ended the season with a Summer Beach Party, and we had a bouncy castle, Coconut Shy, Sand Pit area, ball pool, music, a BBQ and of course swimming. I am sure that all who came along on the day will agree that it was a great day and loads of fun was had. We will definitely be repeating this next year.
Next came our Halloween presentation evening where all the children who had made achievements from this years lessons were awarded their badges and certificates, we made it a fancy dress disco, and had an amazing turnout – in all we had roughly 80 children come along, and the odd parent here and there. There were drinks and sweets and hotdogs available, and we gave prizes for the best fancy dress costumes, and best decorated pumpkins! Once again everyone had a great time, and it will also be something we repeat next year. So onto things yet to come, we have one thing left in the diary for this year, and that is our big “New Years Eve Splash Bash”.
There will of course be more to come from M.A.D.S.P.A after the New Year, so watch out for New Posters appearing around the village.
