Metheringham Squash Rackets Club

Metheringham Squash Rackets Club was built in the mid 70’s. the time of the big squash boom when Squash was as Golf is today - the ‘in thing’. At that time players were only allowed two courts per week and the Club had 25 leagues. After several changes of ownership and a big decline in the interest in squash the Club was closed for a short period until it was purchased in the early 1990s by Blankney Estates. A committee of players was set up to run the Club on behalf of the Members, the Club being leased off Blankney Estates as it still is today. The first tentative days were fraught with worries whether the Club would be viable but this proved totally unfounded and the Club thrived and continues to do so.

Today the Club has two well maintained courts with viewing balconies and a bar that is open 7 p.m.-11 p.m. every evening. The Club also runs its own internal squash leagues of a good standard and has a team in the Lincolnshire Premier Division South. The Club also supports the Lincoln Squash Leagues Association sponsored by Park Motor Finance (PMF) and has six teams all of varying standards in these weekend squash leagues, thus extending team squash to all Club members. Pool and Darts also form part of the activities which take place in the Club. Various squash competitions are run during the year, some of which are handicapped to give players of all standards a chance of winning. The Club hosts several social activities throughout the year, including a summer BBQ and a highly successful and well supported Children in Need Auction, and is often complemented on its hospitality. New Social and Squash members are welcome and for further details contact the Club Secretary (Fran Cooper) on 01526 321071. Alternatively, telephone the Club on 01526 320002 after 7 p.m. or call in for a look round. The Club is located next to the Village Hall on Fen Road, Metheringham, Lincoln LN4 3AA.
