February 2007 Archives
As part of the site re-design, the MACLA web team have added a new photo album with over 400 photos at www.macla.co.uk/photos/index.php.
When you have a minute, pop over there, have a browse and rate your favourite photos.
If you register on the Metheringham Area forums, you'll also be able to comment on the photos and upload your own.
Most of the photos are from our archives, some stretching back 100 years. Enjoy.
Example from the album:
Geraldine Poulton was only 15 when she was evacuated from Guernsey prior to the German invasion of 1940. In December 1942, when old enough, she joined the Women's Auxiliary Air Force working as a 'plotter in a Fighter Command Operations Room. In 1944 she was billeted at Blankney Hall. She kept a diary.
This is her fascinating story ,transcribed by her daughter, from her 1944 diary, for the BBC online archive - "WW2 - A People's War"
Her full wartime story is also online and serves to complete the picture of the part played by a young girl during the War.
