Blankney Cricket Club

Blankney Cricket Club

Is it only just over a couple of months before the new cricket season start? The answer is yes. The weather will certainly have to improve dramatically before anyone would even start thinking about it. For Blankney Cricket Club it will be another exciting new venture for them as their week-end 2nd XI has left the Lincoln Saturday (Seconds) League and joined the South Lincs and Borders (Division Two).

It is appreciated there will be some extra travelling but when one considers last season they had lengthy trips north of Lincoln to Morton (nr Gainsborough), Brigg and Hibaldstow. This season all travelling will be south of the county with the furthest by to the edge of Peterborough. Their campaign opens with a trip to Spalding 2nd on Sat 28 April.

The first eleven will again play their matches on Sunday’s in the Lincoln Premier League having avoided relegation in their last two games of last season. for them the season opens with a Premier Trophy (home tie) against Scothern on Sun 29 April. Once again the club will also be fielding two sides in the Lincoln & District Mid Week League. A club XI and an Estates XI. For the forthcoming season the Midweek league has been revamped with there being just two divisions this season, with eleven teams in both divisions. This will give each side a maximum of ten league fixtures during the light evenings together with a cup competition.

Blankney has also re-entered the Sleaford CC organised Pattison Cup after an absence of several years. In their first round tie they have been drawn against Ancaster with the match taking place on Wed 16 May. Also in cup competition the club has, for a second season, been drawn against Martin in the Smiler Parker village trophy. Martin beat Blankney last season on a damp evening at Martin. This time the fixture is at Blankney towards the end of May. The club will also be hosting county youth fixtures during the season and on Wed 30 May Lincolnshire Over 50’s will entertain Leicestershire Over 50’s at Blankney.

All in all it looking like being a really busy time on the tranquil setting of Blankney Cricket ground and with a licensed bar located in the Club House an enjoyable, relax time can be had at a realistic price for a pint of beer, so get yourselves along there. All are welcome.
The club is always looking for new players so if you are between the age of 14 and 50 and feeling you have something to offer as a cricketer please contact club secretary Pete Ford on 01526 320016.
