Family History Searches

Excerpts from the forums:

Blankney Hall/Londesborough/Eleanor Samuel - The search for my Great Grandfather

I have established from census data and limited family knowledge that my great grandmother,
Eleanor Samuel, was employed as housekeeper by Charles Denison, 3rd Earl Londesborough, at Blankney Hall in nineteen hundred and one. Eleanor gave birth to my grandfather John in eighteen ninety nine in her Welsh home village but never revealed the identity of the father. My grandfather's birth certificate states 'father unknown' but we do know that my great grandmother was not apparently dismissed and that a foster family was found in Kent for my grandfather and that he was 'looked after'. I wonder whether anyone in the Metheringham/Blankney area may be able to provide any further information or leads in my search to try to solve this family mystery?

Yours sincerely David Samuel david.samuel4@btinternet.com

Does anyone recall the Rowson or Rawson family from Dunston. George and Ann and family - If so could they contact me please – Andy Cottingham, Hampshire, - cottingham1@ntlworld.com

Trying to research my family tree! My grandfather was William Harrison, born in the Lincoln Union workhouse to Jane Harrison, whose parents Samuel and Ellen Harrison lived on Dunston Lane. Jane later married John Wright and went on to have 10 more children. They lived at Fosters Yard, Dunston. I would be happy and grateful to hear from anyone who can shed some light on William's life as I know very little about him. Thank you! I am researching my family history, and this weekend I visited Metheringham to try to see where the shop belonging to my great great grandfather in the 1881 census once stood. Slater Thompson (senior) was a grocer at 44 High St, and your website has shown that probably his father, John Thompson, ran the grocers as far back as 1842. My great grandfather was Harry Thompson, son of Slater Thompson (senior) and brother of Slater Thompson (junior) who may have carried on with the shop - does anyone have any more details about these businesses, please?

The website is really helpful, and the locals are very helpful!

Wonder if anyone can help, please. An ancestor, Peter Priest was married in Grantham on 31st March 1743 to Elizabeth Newton. The entry in marriage register reads “Peter Priest of Blankney and Eliz Newton”

Does anyone have access to any records which might refer to Peter Priest?
