Web Watch.

For this article Web Watch is going to look at the changes that are happening to our own site, www.macla.co.uk

Started in 2001, the MACLA site has grown out of all proportion to its humble origins. There have been nearly 50000 visits to the site in 6 years. Thanks mainly to you, the local community, who have provided many of the articles, comments and photos, the site has flourished.

As it has grown, new areas and functionality have been added, whilst older, stale content has been removed. Unfortunately, last year the site saw a surge of unwelcome spam which meant some areas were taken down for periods at a time whilst the unwanted material was removed. What all this has told the web team was that the site was overdue an overhaul.

Over the past few months the team has been working in the background to create a new image for the site and streamline some of the functionality. By the time you read this, the new look should be available. Don’t worry all your old favourites are still there, with some welcome new additions.

We’ve added a new look and feel to the on-line version of this news magazine at www.macla.co.uk/newsmag The forums and event diary (www.macla.co.uk/phoenix) have had a major revamp with many additional features to help you get the most out of your visit to the site. The new addition area that we are most excited about is the on-line photo archive (www.macla.co.uk/photos) which has over 350 photos all contributed by the local community. Its an excellent resource for locals, family researchers, historians and teachers

If its been some time since you visited us, or you are just plain curious to see what all the fuss is about, then pop along to www.macla.co.uk and have a browse around. It costs nothing but your time. The web team hope that you enjoy your visit and if you like what you see, then leave a comment in the forums.

The Weaver.
