M.A.W.S.

At the time of writing MAWS volunteers are going a pace as they try to raise every penny they can. They are in the middle of their “Mad fortnight” when they “carry the can” door to door collecting any change the public so generously give them. This is from 28 May to 10 June inclusive. Metheringham and some of the surrounding village are to be covered. You may have seem them out and about already, trying to dodge the rain and didn’t it rain. They all have MAWS collecting boxes and ID’s and the essential umbrella, so can be easily recognised.

The Garden- outhouse Sales on the first Saturday of each month are still very well supported. Plant and Gardening items sell very well. Pictures, toys, jigsaw puzzles come a close second. With loads of books, videos, DVD’s and CD’s there should be something for everyone. The raffle has a good selection of prizes and is as popular as ever.

Did you watch the London Marathon? Ros Treadwell and Eddie Enright ran as Fred and Wilma Flintstone. They ran to raise money for MAWS and LIVES First Responders. I understand that cheques are to be presented this month, more information later. Due to a breakdown in transport in front of Ros and Eddie on the morning of the race, they found they were on the wrong side of the Thames and four miles from the start line so they walked and ran to get to the drop-off point with their bags, getting to the Start with only three minutes to spare!! Not a good start to a VERY hot day. How they completed the run I will never know. When you watch thousands of people running for a charity and think of all the people sponsoring them….Wow! There are lots of good people about. Well done to you all.
