Metheringham and District Swimming Pool Association.
Wow, hasn’t the summer come about quickly, and what a great start on the Weather front! The start to the new year for the Swimming Pool though has once again been rocky! As many of you may have seen myself and the Chair of the Association Dian Robinson as well as 2 of the lifeguards have had our 5 minutes of fame on BBC One‘s Look North!! But not for the right reasons! Some incredibly un-thoughtful people once again broke into the Swimming Pool area, but this time took it a step further, they stole copper piping and the water meter, making the already CLEAN water once again go green. So as a result those dedicated volunteers that seem to spend their life at the pool at the moment had to jump to attention and set about cleaning the water AGAIN. We had hoped that with the wonderful sunshine we could open earlier, and mainly due to all the help we received we can still open a week early and will now open for Monday 21st May!!
Now for a great big Thank You. Following our five minutes of Fame, Andy Graham of Phoenix Kitchens had within minutes phoned Dian and offered to pay for supplies and the plumber needed to fix the damage caused! As if this wasn’t enough he then went to the pool to assess the situation and promptly bought the parts needed and fixed it himself!!! What a wonderful thing to do, we can’t say how much we appreciate his help!!!
Well moving onto happier times! We have already been hard at it this year, we had our AGM, and the committee remains unchanged, amazingly after the difficult year we had, and all the stress all were willing to remain on-board and try to keep the pool going, we do have 2 new committee members, Ian Brayshaw and Vicky Pattison have both agreed to come on-board and help where possible.
As for Fund Raising we have had a St George’s day themed Treasure hunt, those that attended had a great day but it was not very well supported, we could have done with having a few more people come along, we have also had our Fish and Chip Quiz, again a great evening for those that attended but we could have done with having more people attend, please, please come along and support us as this is the only way we will be able to open next year. So onto events yet to come, we have a sponsored swim on Friday 29th June, this is going to be a joint venture with LIVES and all money raised will be split from the after 9pm swim. If you can spare us some time to join in with this, you will be not only supporting the Pool but LIVES as well! Look out for posters!
With the last issue of the MACLA Magazine you will have received the leaflet that tells you about session times and fund raising events, please take the time to have a look at this and if for any reason you didn’t receive this, there are plenty more at the pool, just pop in and pick one up!
Well we hope to see you at the pool soon, Thanks Rhea Robinson, Secretary M.A.D.S.P.A.
