Metheringham Village Hall
There was a fantastic turnout for the massive Plant Sale and Spring Fair in the village hall on Saturday 12th May. An army of volunteers filled the hall with foliage on Friday evening, stewarded the event, sold raffle tickets and served refreshments and then cleared and cleaned the hall – all in and out within 24 hours. The event was the first for the village hall fundraising sub-committee who worked tirelessly to achieve such a fantastic display.
The Village Hall Management Committee would like to thank them in particular but also everyone else who helped or supported and those who attended the event. The amount raised was over £1600 and priority will go towards replacing the boiler. There will be another plant sale on 28th July and a 50:50 Auction in September. Anyone interested in hiring the hall can contact the booking clerk, Anne Harrison, on 01526 320644.
The Village Hall Management Committee held their AGM on Tuesday 29th May and there was a slightly more optimistic outlook than last year with Jenni Honisett agreeing to become Chairman and Dot Howes agreeing to stay on as Treasurer for another year. The Hall still needs a Vice-Chairman and Secretary to help it function properly. Twelve managing trustees representing village organisations were signed in. The Acting Chairman, parish council chairman Dr Mike Allen, reported on the year saying that because of his other commitments he had been unable to give the village hall the time and effort he would have liked. Because of this the work of the other committee members and the newly appointed booking clerk and manager had been greatly appreciated. He said the Harrisons were doing a tremendous job as booking clerk and caretaker/manager. Mr Saunders had been replaced as hall cleaner by Carole Knox. Two new sub-committees had been installed to make the running of the hall more efficient; an Executive and Finance core group and a Fund raising sub-committee. This had worked well with the recent spring fair and plant sale being a great success.
The hall has seen an increase in both regular and one-off bookings during the year and the treasurer reported that it had turned round the deficit of the previous year thanks also to welcome donations from Mr & Mrs Munday and the Co-op. Vandalism has been a problem at times causing extra repairs and maintenance expenses but there are fantastic new curtains on the stage thanks to Claire for making them and MAD for their donation towards the cost,
Bookings are looking good for the current year but fundraising needs to be continued to cope with the repair and maintenance bills. If you know anyone who can help or would be prepared to help run this vital village amenity as the committee secretary please get in touch.
