Nocton Arts Group and Village Trail Association

The adventure of living in Nocton continues. It is such an inspiring place. In fact the history has been the inspiration for most of our projects in the past few years.

In April 2006 we began two village history projects. One of those came to fruition on 28th May 2007 when Douglas Hogg, QC., MP., formally opened Nocton Village Trail, but let me go back to April 2006 when we began the journey towards creating the literature and trail markers which now mark the Trail and are the results of a lot of enthusiastic hard work.

After our highly acclaimed Parish Church path project in 2004 the Village Trail Association applied for another Lottery Heritage Award in order to create the literature that gives walkers around the village an insight into the history and heritage of this ancient place. It was always our aim to create Art works to highlight the Heritage Walk and, with the help of 42 local people this past year, we have made mosaics, created metal plaques and carved oak posts to help make the new walk visually interesting. We have had great support from "ArtsNK". Nick Jones has worked just as hard facilitating and helping us create the markers and plaques.

Our new Trail is all part of a great idea to create a long walk from Lincoln to Sleaford. This "Spires and Steeples" Trail is intended to follow the Cardyke and branch off into the villages along the route so that the uniqueness of each village's heritage can be highlighted creatively. Nocton villagers have, again, had great fun this past year on this our latest project. Lots of new skills have been acquired and new people have joined the regulars to help us make the various markers and plaques ready for the Official Opening. But, particular thanks must go to Carol Bennett, our writer, and Eileen Moulds' old photographs, who, between them mainly created the content which the Design Team of Electric Egg so ably put together in the leaflets and booklet.

The second major project is a large mosaic, a water feature, which has several large fish and a frog represented in it. It is our intention to link this piece of art to the Oak Seat we finished carving in October 2006. The dragonfly and reeds on the seat being reflected in the mosaic design. This watery theme is intended to reflect the fact that the Village Pump was, until the 50's, sited here. This feature is also intended to be a major marker on the New Trail. I guess it will be a few more months before this is completed so, watch this space for the next instalment of what's afoot in Nocton.
