MAWS - Autumn 2007 update
The Metheringham Animal Welfare Supporters Group held their AGM at the Scarf and Goggles on 13 August. 45 enthusiastic animal lovers attended and it promised to be a great evening. The chairperson, Yvonne Denman welcomed and thanked everyone who had helped through the year. In the absence of Treasurer Donna Baumber , Ann Heading read out her report and a gasp went up as she announced the cheque to each charity would be……£1,707.00 - Wow £6,828.00 in total. That is the best MAWS have ever raised in a year.
Secretary Joyce Muncey had a few senile moments during her report on a very busy year but no one seemed to mind. She thanked everyone for their hard work and continued support. It was just a great atmosphere and the end to a great year.
Cheque presentations followed with the recipients Lincolnshire Trust for Cats, Parrot Line, Silver Florin Equestrian and Boston & District Cat Welfare expressing sincere gratitude (a most emotional moment).
After a short break to compose oneself photos were taken and drinks topped up. On resumption of proceedings nominations were read out and all the committee members re-elected unopposed. In addition two new members were voted in, namely Nick Dobbs and Hayley Bryan.
Charity voting sheets, given out earlier in the evening to all paid up members at the meeting (members vote from their second AGM). With 17 Lincolnshire Charities, Trusts etc to choose from and each member having four votes, the excitement mounted. Ann Heading read the votes as Vikki Baumbers recorded them on the board for all to see. With fingers crossed all waited to see if their favourite animal charity won the vote.
The winners were…. Keith's Rescue Dogs, Skegness, Bunny Heaven, Coleby, Cats in Need, Sleaford and Marion's Animal Lodge, Lincoln.
MAWS have much to do to raise the funds so they receive their cheques at next years AGM.
A big thank you was expressed to Sue and Nigel Powell for yet again allowing the AGM to be held on their premises.
