Martin Cricket Club - End of season report 2007

Martin Cricket Club had to put their Annual Presentation on hold after the sad and untimely death of their Chairman Trevor Davis in September. Trevor had been a stalwart supporter of the club for many years and had been their Chairman for over 25 years, right up to death. He died only a few days after been told of the news that his beloved team had become League Champions for the second successive season. His passing will leave a large void in the club.

The club presentation is now expected to take place in January but the main award winners are already known. Top batsman and also the Division One top batsman is Dave Newman who hit 469 runs in just eight innings with an average of 67.00. He hit two centuries with his highest score being 139 not out.
Top bowler is Rob Noble who picked up 15 wickets at an average of 11.47 His best figures were 6-15 and he finished 4th in the league averages.

Top player in the field was wicket keeper, Tom Harrison who claimed 7 wickets and finished 2nd in the League averages.

Martin Cricket Club also recorded the three top partnerships in Division One this season with the best being a second wicket stand between Dave Newman and Dave Gollop of 156 at home against neighbours Timberland. Their second best was an opening stand between Newman and P. Sneath of 135 at Saxilby and their third a fifth wicket partnership of 117 between Simon Godby and Mark Pilgrim in the home match with Timberland. This game saw them register a new record highest score in the Leagues of 374-6.
