Metheringham Village Hall
Winter 2007 Update
The Village Hall is feeling secure and well fed after a very successful few months. On 1 September they ran their inaugural 50:50 sale with the help of John Duggins as auctioneer and raised £590 for the hall. The sale involved many committee and friends in preparation and running the event on the day as the public presented around 340 lots for sale ranging from tables to jigsaws to pears to door stops and televisions. It was a long day but the interest in the lots never waned thanks partly to the bacon butties and scones on sale. The management committee chairman, Jenni Honisett, said what a wonderful event it had been. She said that the committee were mostly 50:50 Auction virgins and though there had been a few teething troubles she was very pleased with how the helpers had organised themselves to make the event run smoothly.
Just two days after the auction the hall committee was surprised and delighted to be chosen as the recipients of this year's Star and Garter Vegetable and Produce Show money. The event raised £665 and this brought the total raised over the weekend to £1255.
The village hall was then very grateful to be asked by the football club to share in the Race Night held at the Star and Garter. There were eight races and eight horses sold for each race. On the night the tote was busy with punters trying their luck and there were some tense moments. Thanks to Butch and his staff a good evening was had by all and the magnificent sum raised saw both the F.C. and the village hall receiving £432.50
Harmony Lincs were the special guests at Metheringham Village Hall on 23 November when the Village Hall Committee hosted a musical evening. The MAD singers sang songs from the shows including Oliver, The Sound of Music and Les Miserables and Lincs Harmony sang a wide range of songs in the Barbershop style. The evening was compered by Gaynor Little.
So how is the money raised going to be used to benefit the hall users? Well the boiler has already been replaced and various other repairs and improvements made to the rear of the building. The committee are looking at grant funding to help them with further improvements to the hall to bring it into the 21st century - completing the cavity wall insulation and double glazing, installing a storm water collection system for use in the toilets, the possibility of CCTV and looking at the use of solar power for water heating.
As always we would like to see more village bodies represented on the committee and helping to run this major village facility. If you don't have a representative please see if someone new to your group would like to come along. We still really need a committee secretary but if the idea of being secretary or treasurer doesn't appeal we would still like their input as a management trustee.
