Local Police News - Spring 2008
from PC Simon Gordon
Members of the community policing team hope all residents had a peaceful Christmas. Belated Happy New Year to all.

I am pleased to report that we have only recorded one burglary over the Christmas period, and do date. This was a sneak-in burglary at an isolated farm-house on the B1188 close to Metheringham, which took place in early-February. Some of these thieves are prepared to enter your home when you are in the house. So if you are spending time in your conservatory, at the back of the house, it may be a good idea to lock your front-door. Remember that if you leave your house in daylight, you may return when it is dark. Leave some lights on, or use timers. Close your windows. Use your house-alarm if you have one.
With the dark nights still upon us, we ask all residents to remain vigilant and report anything they feel is suspicious, particularly in relation to bogus officials or traders calling at your address. These criminals often use imitation uniforms, such as water, gas or electricity-type workwear.
If you are not happy with the person at your door, do not let them in to your property. That includes people saying they are police officers, even in uniform. I am very happy to show my warrant-card to any member of the public requiring to see it.
Our older residents particularly, tend to be more trusting of people and these individuals are well-aware of this.
We are currently suffering from a large amount of vehicle-crime on the 'patch'. Somebody is going around smashing vehicle windows. None of the vehicles have been entered, so theft is not the motive. 'Satnavs' and other property have been left untouched. This appears to be mindless vandalism. And no, I have no idea what the perpetrators get out of it either!
Cars and vans have been damaged in Metheringham, Branston, Nocton, Bracebridge Heath. Also, a large number in Sleaford. My feeling is that the person or persons responsible therefore have a vehicle. Many of these offences are occurring in the early-evening. Please be vigilant, and report anything suspicious.
There have been problems at Metheringham railway station in recent weeks, often between local youths and youths from Sleaford, when passing through the station to watch Lincoln City play football. A number of youths have been dealt with; both by ourselves, and also by British Transport Police.
The next community-panel meeting will be held on 17th. March at the Branston Doctors surgery. Any resident who is interested in becoming a panel-member can contact us on the below-listed 'phone-numbers or e-mails. This is your opportunity to have your say on the issues which concern you, and to help to set the policing-priorities.
Due to many complaints regarding the speed of vehicles travelling through the village we have been and will continue to conduct regular speed checks. A number of tickets have been issued on Lincoln Road, Metheringham, to drivers found to be travelling well in access of the 30mph speed limit.
Having said all of the above, our area continues to be a very safe place to live and work.
