MADSPA News - Spring 2008
The volunteers who care for the Swimming Pool on behalf of the community, have arranged several fund-raising activities for the coming months.
We need to fun raise to cover the escalating costs of keeping the pool clean and warm and its surrounds neat and tidy. The estimated costs for this year, including gas, electric, water, maintenance and lifeguard and caretaker wages will be in excess of £8,000. This amount will not be covered by gate fees and a considerable amount of time and effort by the small committee is dedicated to fund-raising. We are currently seeking grants to enable us to install solar heating which will help greatly in reducing the £2,500 gas bill.
If you want this valuable village amenity to continue, to enable our children to learn to swim and to become lifesavers, to provide healthy outdoor exercise for both children and adults, then some input is required from you - The Public - by supporting the many varied events arranged by us. Without your support the pool could close as there will not be enough money to carry on. We try to be self-supporting but the Parish Council has helped on many occasions. This financial support may not always be available and other more pressing needs may arise for them.
The Committee are very grateful to Mr Basil Hawbrook the Secretary of the Wednesday Club for their very generous donation of £120.00 to the Swimming Pool.

Calling all helpers
Ann and Dian need help at the Pool. We can turn our hands to most things but we need help with cutting the hedge, the pool-side slabs (lifting and relaying the sand), the roof over the BBQ area and removing a tree stump. There are a thousand and one smaller jobs to do - stripping the changing room floors for new flooring, painting, cleaning and power washing the summer covers.
The Boiler needs servicing, chemicals need buying (£800), the pool tanks needs cleaning (Scuba-diver needed), the sheds need tidying and the gate needs moving from the school to the field.
All these jobs are just too much for two ladies!!!!!!
Please call us if you have a few hours to spare at the week-ends - 321581 or 321175
