Metheringham Parish Council - Summer 2008
Annual Village Meeting 2008
The 2008 Annual Village meeting took place on Tuesday 29 April in the Village Hall. This year's topic was "GOING GREEN", David Webb, Sustainable Project Officer from NKDC gave a presentation informing residents how they can remain sustainable and have an impact on the future.
This was the third year all the local village organizations had been invited to the Village Meeting, and we believe it was a great success with a turnout of 20 groups. We would like to thank the groups who gave presentations. These included the Army Cadet Force, Bowls Club, Metheringham Area LIVES, the Over 60's, Metheringham & District Swimming Pool Association, the Village Hall Management Committee and the Methodist Chapel. This made the evening varied and interesting.
It is your meeting and your opportunity to update everyone on your group's achievements. If you did not give a presentation or short talk this year, please bear this in mind for next year. If you have any suggestions or new ideas as to how the Annual Village Meeting could be improved please contact the Clerk.
Parish Plan
Communities of any size can produce a Parish Plan. To date around 3,000 communities have produced a Parish Plan, either individually or by forming local clusters. As yet Metheringham have not produced a Parish Plan. These documents comprise the socio-economic and environmental issues of a community and their proposed remedies. Parish Plans are intended to be evolving documents, outlining how a community would like to develop over the next ten years, and usually include an action plan detailing how these developments can be achieved.
The next step is the formation of a Steering Group, this will be made up of volunteers from the community. Consultation is also key to setting off on the right foot. The most important groups are:- OUR local community, Parish Council, Community Lincs, District Council and County Council. If you believe you can offer your expertise in a certain area or would like to be part of the Steering Group please contact the Clerk. Remember it is our plan and it is up to our village to make sure the action plan is implemented, monitored and updated.
Youth Shelter
The new Youth/Meeting Shelter has now been erected. This project was initiated after months of research. The Parish Council envisage it to be a multi use meeting shelter for users of the sports field, the football club, swimming pool and new pavilion. Concerns have been expressed by local residents regarding its location but it had to be sited on Parish Council property where it can be clearly seen. Its siting was on the advice of the local police who have promised they will give extra attention to it whilst on their patrols.
Shelters in surrounding villages such as Branston, Cranwell and Bracebridge Heath have all had positive feedback and no vandalism. Unfortunately in Metheringham vandals have already placed graffiti on the shelter. This is extremely disappointing and has been caused by the minority. If the shelter is not respected and utilised to best effect, please be assured it will be removed.
