Branston U3A Autumn 2008

Branston U3A continues to flourish and a time will come when we may need to place a cap on our membership list, although at present we are still able to invite those people who live in Branston and the surrounding villages who have reached the 'third age' (i.e. aged around 50 and over and who are not in active full time employment) to come along and see for themselves this 'great organisation which can open so many new doors' (The Times).

Our monthly meetings, held on the fourth Tuesday, from 2.00pm, in Branston Village Hall, are becoming increasingly popular. Group activities have ranged from those held in the 'seclusion' of members' houses to more ambitious projects such as the Archaeology, Ancient and Medieval History Group (who visited Thornton Abbey and St Peter's Church in Barton on Humber) and the "Exploring the Past" tour of the Axholme Valley Churches (frequented by the Pilgrim Fathers). Several exciting new groups are being planned to start within the next few weeks.

During the coming months, our monthly meetings will include talks about 'Queen Victoria,' Neville Shute's book 'A Town Like Alice,' 'National Service - the Draft and the Press Gang, and 'Life in the 1950s.'

Copies of our monthly Newsletter giving more details about the many and varied group activities can be found in most of the local libraries.
