This article is about keeping your computer safe. When you bought your computer it probably came packaged with anti-virus software. Normally you get a 3 month licence, 6 if you were lucky. After the initial period has elapsed then you will be required to pay to continue to keep your computer safe from viruses. A free alternative worth considering, for home computers, is Grisoft's AVG Anti Virus Free edition (free.grisoft.com). This offers users an effective and high level of virus detection capability. It's easy to use, uses little in the way of system resources and updates automatically. Any viruses or infected files it detects are quarantined in a 'virus vault' ready for disposal.
If your computer is connected to the internet then it could be open to hostile attacks. Microsoft XP & Vista both come with a basic Windows Firewall which protects against incoming attacks. ZoneAlarm (zonealarm.com) offer a free version of their firewall program for home users which offers a better degree of protection than the Microsoft version. Zone Alarm is another easy to use programme which will block access attempts by hackers and other unknown threats.
Stay safe
