February 2009 Archives
This February brought our first real spell of wintery weather for a number of years. With this came school closures, stranded staff and pupils and a few bumps and bruises from slippery surfaces across the local area. Our pupils did however enjoy having fun in the snow and they will no doubt have fond memories of building snowmen and sledging. We are now looking forward to the Spring and to having more opportunities to take our learning outside the classroom and to developing our school grounds.
Christmas term ended in a flurry of seasonal activities. The infants performed their nativity play 'Whoops a Daisy Angel' to their families, school friends, pre school, day care providers and members of the Metheringham over 60's group. Christmas parties and talent competitions took place in school and Santa made a special visit to the school Christmas fair. Visits to the Methodist Church and St Wilfrids' Church rounded off our school's celebration of Christmas.
This term we have continued with our programme of Road Safety training and Bikewise training. We hope that this will encourage pupils to be more responsible as pedestrians and cyclists in their local communities. Our Year 1/ Year 2 pupils flew off to China for a morning from their quickly constructed airport in our school hall. The pupils assured us that they had a wonderful visit and they came back with lots of information that they found out about China. At the same time our Reception pupils ventured into outer space coming home with wonderful models of space robots and convinced that their teachers really are aliens!
The Friends of Metheringham School group held an excellent music quiz for parents, friends and staff. Everyone was tested on their knowledge of music from the 60's era through to current times. Valentines' discos were held at the end of term for our pupils. Both events will help to fund new musical instruments for school and needy equipment for our after school cheerleading group.
Our thanks go to everyone for continuing to support our school. Next term will be busy and we hope that the pupils will enjoy all of the activities and learning planned for them.

Metheringham Fire Station had its Annual Car Wash day on Saturday 4 October. This is a national event with stations from all over the country raising money for the Fire Services Charity. The response for our event was fantastic and we wish to thank everyone who turned out on the day to have their vehicles washed. The event raised £399.80 from donations on the day which will go to the Fire Services Charity. Other fund raisers attending on the day included The Angels Dance Squad, Lives, Duncan and Linda's Plants and excellent refreshments from Daniel's Diner. Thanks to everyone.
For Metheringham Football Club another season is flying by with only just over two months of the 2008-09 season left.
At the present time none of our thirteen teams holds a top of the table position but that aside, two are still in with a good chance of winning or being runners-up in their respective league, namely the Under 16's (3rd at present) and Under 14's (also third)

Distraction Burglary and Bogus callers
Distraction burglary has a disproportionate and long lasting effect upon its victims who are more often than not the older and more vulnerable members of society. Although most older people will never encounter it, their fear of it remains unacceptably high.
Not all burglars break into your home, some will try to trick or con their way in instead. So always be vigilant when anyone you're not expecting - a man, a woman or even a child - turns up at your door.

DRIVERS NEEDED
Did you know that the parish operates a Voluntary Car Scheme for the benefit of residents of Scopwick and Kirkby Green?
This scheme involves taking people who do not have their own transport, or who for medical reasons cannot use their own transport, to local hospitals which serve the area and to doctors' surgeries and emergency dental appointments.
Drivers are now desperately needed to keep the scheme up and running. It doesn't involve a lot of time, just an occasional hour or two. It is purely voluntary but expenses are paid at a fixed rate.
Details can be found by telephoning Mr Hugh Cardy on 01526 320500.
Can you help your community?
