1st Metheringham Guides - Spring 2009 Update

The unit has grown in recent months and is at full capacity now with a waiting list for new members. Our Guides come from Metheringham and many of the surrounding villages. We meet at Blankney Old School on Tuesday evenings and have a very varied programme of events and activities.

The Centenary of Girlguiding in 2010 is fast approaching and in the run up to this very special event Rainbow, Brownie and Guide units have been challenged to "Change the World". For our part in this the major project running up to Christmas 2008 was an Enterprise Project, where each of the Patrols (groups of up to 6 Guides) developed and ran a fund-raising project to raise funds for a school in Tambana, The Gambia. The projects included card making, cakes and biscuits, bookmarks, a 50/50 bucket, and a sweet tombola. The Guides took their projects to the Metheringham and Nocton Christmas Fayres and overall £177.53 was raised. This money goes towards sponsoring children in the school and helps provide uniform, exercise books, pencils and a daily meal for them.

Guide Leader Linda Carpenter-Coxon went out to the school just before Christmas and thoroughly enjoyed working with the children. We also sang carols at The Cottage, Nocton which was much enjoyed by the Guides and Residents alike, and made decorations for the Christmas Tree in St Peter's Church, Dunston.
This term the Guides are working on their Go-for-its and some of the older members are planning and running activities for their Baden Powell Challenge awards.

Thanks to all the residents of Metheringham for leaving old newspapers out for us to collect on the first Saturday of each month. Monies raised from The Paper Shed is shared between our Rainbow, Brownie and Guide units.

If you would like to become involved with your local unit in any way, please contact Linda on 322410 or Paula on 320645.
