A CHAIN OF EVENTS is an exciting programme of activities taking place throughout the month of May, bringing together all the villages along the route, through the unveiling of new artworks, Tranquillity music concerts, led walks and special events.

The Spires & Steeples trail, from Lincoln Cathedral to St Denys Church, Sleaford, brings together the rich history, heritage and local stories of the area. It has many beautiful art works, churches, interesting landscapes and picturesque skies.

If a spot of drama whets your appetite, to launch A Chain of Events on Saturday 2 May, Lincolnshire's vintage bus will travel from village to village stopping at the stunning mosaics, carved benches and dramatic artworks along the way. To add drama to the journey, a local theatre company will entertain you on the bus before a finale performance at Haverholme Lock.

Viking Day in Navenby - 7 June 2009

| | Comments (0)

Sunday 7th June 2009

Over the last few years this quiet corner of Lincolnshire has experienced a second Roman Invasion.

The first time around they came, they saw, they conquered. They built and improved the roads and the trading routes, built the Foss Dyke, made Lincoln or 'Lindum Colonia' the capitol of the Roman province and then, after about 400 years, they left. Was it the climate? Something we said? Or a credit crunch?

For the next 300 years the villagers of Navenby settle down to a relatively peaceful life, trading along the High Dyke and extending the village to the cliff edge. They were now part of the Anglo Saxon kingdom of Lindsey, and then - the Vikings arrive. Great fierce hairy men, dishonouring the maidens and pillaging along the way, or did they?

Come and find out for yourselves what happened next; a great day out for the family, on the Open Space, High Dyke from 10am. Refreshments available on site. Free car parking on the Playing Field. Look out for the signposts.
