Metheringham Parish Council News - Autumn 2009
Allotments - Metheringham The Parish Council is still in negotiations with the land agent to acquire further land in the village for use as allotments. Unfortunately the land will not be available until December 2010 due to the surrender of the current lease. If anyone has any comments or requires any information, please contact the Clerk.
Recreation fields The Parish Council is in the final stages of negotiations with Lincolnshire CC. The Parish Council and LCC Solicitors are in consultation to finalise the details of the Heads of Terms agreement for the lease of the Star & Garter field. Metheringham Parish Council and Lincolnshire County Council are totally committed to providing better facilities for the community.
Remembrance Day Service This year's service will take place on Sunday 8 November at the Methodist Chapel, Metheringham at 10.00am. The Memorial Service will be held at the War Memorial, followed by a short prayer at the war graves in the new cemetery. Refreshments will be served at the end of the service in Star & Garter .
Quality Parish Scheme At the end of June, the clerk obtained the Certificate in Local Administration (CiLCA) awarded by the University of Gloucestershire. The Certificate in Local Council Administration requires a Parish Council Clerk to prepare a portfolio of their work, demonstrating their basic understanding of the role and principles of local council administration. By obtaining the certificate the clerk is able to demonstrate a high level of competency in their work, which will be invaluable to the council. It was essential that I obtained this qualification as it was one of the criteria for the council to achieve Quality Council Status. We are now in the process of compiling the portfolio of evidence to be submitted for accreditation. The Quality Parish scheme offers a number of benefits, primarily to the community that the Parish Council represents, as well as to the Council itself and principal local authorities in the area. For more information on Quality Status please contact the Clerk.
Village Centre Regeneration After several delays the new cross has been installed over the weekend of 15/16 August 2009. The new cross, in all its splendour, is of a similar design to the cross dating back to 1911 which was knocked down by a US army truck during WW2. By request, the original stone base has been retained and has been cleaned to integrate with the new column. The Parish Council has already received positive comments about the new addition. An official opening/ unveiling is being considered to celebrate the installation. We would like to hear from you as to any celebrity or TV personality you feel would be appropriate. Please let us know your suggestions by contacting the Clerk 0800 6343307 or clerk@metheringham.org.uk
