Silver Sound Band - Autumn 2009
The Band recently held a concert and presentation of awards / social evening at which they performed some of the new music they are working on for the coming season, including The Great Escape and an arrangement of the hymn tune St Anne. Each young player in the Band was presented with a certificate of achievement by Roy Duncan, the Musical Director; and he then presented the following awards:
Most Promising Player: Sophie Primett
Player of the Year: Hayley Fox
Most Improved Player: Alice Lee
Bandsman of the Year: Sophie Fox
Most Improved Beginner: Samuel Palmer
Silver Sounds Band Summer School
The Band recently hosted their first Summer School, at which anyone interested in learning to play a brass instrument was given the opportunity to try out different instruments, start learning to play their preferred instrument, and learn to read music. The attendees were aged from 6 to adult, and the week ended with them performing a short concert with other members of the Band. The Summer School has resulted in several more members for the Band and it is hoped that this will become an annual event.
You can next hear the Band play at the Dunston Scarecrow Festival (26/27 Sept).
The Band is always welcoming of new members; whether you already play a brass instrument or would like to learn, we would love to hear from you. It only costs £15/quarter to join (around £1/week!), and you will receive tuition if required, the loan of an instrument and music, as well as the opportunity to learn new skills and to become a member of a fantastic local music-making activity.
