Metheringham Parish Council News Winter 2009

Allotments - Metheringham

The Parish Council is progressing negotiations with the land agent to acquire some of the glebe land in the village for use as allotments. As previously stated the land will not be available until December 2010 due to the surrender of the current lease. There is now a waiting list of twenty three people. If anyone knows of any land in the parish that would be suitable for hire or purchase as allotments please contact the Clerk.

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

Following the success of the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony and carol service last year, the Parish Council has organized a similar event which will take place on Wednesday 2nd December at 7.00pm at the War Memorial Garden, Metheringham. This is a family event so please come along and join in the celebrations.

Fayre and Feast

The Parish Council would like to thank the small number of volunteers who helped at this year's Fayre & Feast, special thanks to the members of Mission X, without them the event could not go ahead. The Fayre and Feast working group desperately need volunteers for next year's event. If you can spare an hour or two please contact the Clerk on Tel: 0800 6343307.

Recreation fields

The Parish Council is still in negotiations with Lincolnshire County Council. The Parish Council and County Council Solicitors are in consultation to finalize the details of the Heads of Terms agreement for the lease of the Star & Garter field for use by the Metheringham Primary School. Unfortunately the heads of terms document has been converted into legal terms. MPC are extremely disappointed as the document is no longer readable to the layman. This is being addressed at the moment. Metheringham Parish Council is desperately trying to resolve the land issues so the new pavilion and changing rooms project can be moved forward. MPC is totally committed to providing better facilities for the community.

Remembrance Day Service

This year's service took place on Sunday 8 November at the Methodist Chapel, Metheringham. A Memorial Service was held at the War Memorial garden, High Street, followed by a short prayer at the war graves in the new cemetery. Thank you to Reverend Martin Amery for the excellent service. It was wonderful to see so many people at the service and we hope this gave you time to reflect. Thanks to Graham and Margaret at the Star & Garter for the very welcome coffee, tea and biscuits.

Quality Parish Scheme

The Quality Parish Scheme portfolio was submitted to the Lincolnshire Accreditation Panel for assessment in October. Metheringham Parish Council is delighted to report that we have been awarded Quality Parish Status. The Quality Parish and Town Council Scheme was launched in 2003 with the aim of providing a benchmark minimum standard for parish and town councils across the country.
The accreditation demonstrates the ability to deliver efficient services to local residents and speak with greater authority to principal councils when seeking delegated functions which can be better carried out locally. The Quality Parish scheme offers a number of benefits, primarily to the community that the Parish Council represents, as well as to the Council itself and principal local authorities in the area.

Village Centre Regeneration Project

The Parish Council has received many more favourable comments about the new cross. The dedication of the cross took place prior to the official opening of the Fayre and Feast on 24 October 2009 by the Venerable Tim Barker, Archdeacon of Lincoln. Unfortunately the original base was not cleaned to a satisfactory standard but following several complaints to NKDC no action was taken. The Parish Council therefore had to instruct a contractor to carry out the work and our thanks go to Centurian Dimension Stone Company (CDS) for coming to our rescue and cleaning the base to an acceptable standard. The ongoing maintenance issues outside the library and health clinic are still ongoing. This whole area reflects badly on the centre of the village and the Parish Council is waiting for a response from LCC.
