Branston and District U3A Update Spring 2010

During the latter part of last year a variety of new groups were formed, and this year has started with a similar trend. A Keep Fit group is now the latest project to emerge on the scene. This takes place every Tuesday at the Sports Pavilion on Moor Lane in Branston, commencing at 9.15 am. The cost per session is £2.50 for each member, and lasts for one hour. The full course of exercises, which have been especially designed to cater for the over sixties, is being conducted over a 48 week period. The first session, which began on 2nd February, got off to a good and invigorating start. However, there are a few places still available in the group, so take up the challenge and contact Dick Newman (Group Convenor) on 01522 794935. The Branston and District U3A would like to take this opportunity of thanking the Lincolnshire County Council and the NHS Lincolnshire for providing a grant that has made this project possible.
Future Events
The Annual General Meeting will take place on 23 March at the Branston Village Hall, where the doors will be opened at 1.30pm for a 2pm start. Nominations are required for the appointments of Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer, and the committee will also be looking for nominations for at least four other committee members.
There are a variety of successful 'Open Groups' who utilise the facilities of the Old Village Hall in Heighington. The Armchair Travel Group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 10am for a 10.30am start, and Peter Foster will be giving a presentation about a 'Cruise on The Rhone & Saone' at the March meeting. Steve Lovell will be discussing his adventures in the Pyrenees at the April meeting; whilst Christine Metcalf will be talking about her journey from Moscow to St Petersburg, at the following meeting.

Some of the additional groups who use this same venue are the Aspects of History, the Classical Movies, 33s and the Music Appreciation. For any further information on these specific activities, please do not hesitate to attend any General Meeting on the fourth Tuesday in every month (same venue and start time as above for the AGM).
