Metheringham Football Club News - Spring 2010
For many years the Pro-game has discussed the possibility of introducing a mid-season break. Well due to the snow and ice we have just suffered a substantial mid-term break, all that has been achieved is that we are left with a major backlog of fixtures and what looks like a very busy April.
Since the enforced break, the Under 8s, 9s and 10s have all seen some excellent results and all appear to be enjoying themselves. The Under 12s are obviously the team to watch if you want goals. In their three matches this year they have won one 8 - 3, lost one 10 - 1 and drawn the third 5 goals each. The under 14s have struggled since mid December when they were top of their league, sadly losing their last three games. Our Under 15s continue to find life hard in the 'A' league and still await their first point. Our very skilful and competitive Intermediate Team had had a great run before losing against League leaders, Manor United, possibly due to the absence of their excellent, goalkeeper Matt Blackband (skiing holiday).
The three senior sides are all doing relatively well; with two still in cup competitions, including the First eleven through to the semi-final of the Ron Eaglen (Sunday Senior) Cup. They play at Washingborough on 14 March against The Hunter's Leap, a game made extra special as a number of the Hunters side are ex-Meg players.
The weather has made life pretty poor for all but the most hardy and special praise must go to our groundsman, Brian Blackband who continues to look after all of the pitches and their surrounds, Thanks once again Brian.
Liz Rogers and her team staged a successful Fayre in the Village Hall just before Christmas and their next function will be the Club's Annual 'Race Night' to be held in the Star and Garter on Grand National Eve, Friday 9 April, everyone's welcome, so please come along and support the event and of course the Club.
