Metheringham Over 60's Club Update Spring 2010

On 2 December 124 members and guests attended our Annual Christmas Dinner. The catering was excellent and we assume that all those who attended enjoyed themselves because we have not had any complaints.

Unfortunately, our first event of 2010 was cancelled because of the snow and icy conditions. This was to ensure that members were not put at undue risk of injury. The chairman, Margaret Amos, has re-booked the presentation on Bees for our April meeting.

Wednesday 13 January, 22 members travelled by coach to Nottingham to see the Pantomime "Jack in the Beanstalk" starring Nigel Havers. Despite the weather, snow and ice, everyone enjoyed the pre-show shopping and the pantomime. Through incapacity several people were unable to make the trip. One in particular, Sandie Williams, tried skating on black ice, landed on her coccyx and spent the next hour lying on her back waiting for an ambulance. A paramedic arrived within about 10 minutes but the ambulance service was so busy Sandie had to remain lying on the pavement until an ambulance arrived from the Skegness area. After a day in an extremely busy A&E, looked after by marvellous staff, during which x-rays showed, apart from her pride, that nothing had been broken, she spent the next two days in hospital. Sandie is still a bit sore. You could say she starred in her own pantomime alongside Jack (Frost)! Sandie would like to express her thanks to Mrs. Margaret Halliwell who came out with a blanket to keep her warm. Many residents and unknown people stopped their cars to enquire if they could assist. Community spirit lives on especially in Metheringham - thank you.

We have received details of a writing competition, including poetry; anyone over 50 will be eligible. There are six titles to choose from, as follows:

  1. 1. The most difficult decision I have ever made.

  2. 2. The sixties - I was there.

  3. 3. My hero.

  4. 4. I wish I had.

  5. 5. I like to watch

  6. 6. If I could live my life again.

The closing date is Fri, 9 April 2010. For details and entry form contact the Sec.
