Allotments - Metheringham

The Parish Council are still in negotiations with the land agent to acquire some of the glebe land in the village for use as allotments. Another area of land has now been identified and this is also being pursued. The waiting list remains at twenty three people. If anyone knows of any land in the parish that would be suitable for hire or purchase as allotments please contact the Clerk.

Annual Village Meeting

The 2010 Annual Village meeting will take place on Tuesday 27 April starting at 7.00pm in the Village Hall.Over the past four years the events have been very successful with over 20 village organizations in attendance. This is not a formal Parish Council meeting, it is a meeting for the people of Metheringham to present to each other, details of their organizations and how things have progressed during the year. This can be done with a display, a short presentation or just an informal chat. The Chairman will give a report on the Parish Council activities, so if you would like to know more about your parish council and how we are spending your money, then please come along. This year the invited guest is the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance. There will be free refreshments during the evening and the opportunity to view the exhibits and socialize with the speakers and parishioners.

If you have any suggestions or comments regarding the Annual Village Meeting please contact the Clerk.

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

We would like to thank everyone who came to the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony and carol service in December. The Parish Council has organized a similar event which will take place on Thursday 2 December 2010 at 7.00pm at the War Memorial Garden, Metheringham. Silver Sounds Band will be playing. This is a family event so make a note in your diary and come along and join in the celebrations.

Dog Fouling
Many selfish people allow their dogs to foul on footways, verges, playing fields and other public places. This practice is unsightly, unhealthy and illegal. Dog excrement can, at worst, be responsible for the transmission of a number of illnesses and at best, be extremely unpleasant. The amount of fouling taking place over the winter months is totally unacceptable. The Parish Council are operating a zero tolerance policy on dog fouling. The parish dog warden is patrolling the village day and night and issuing fixed penalty notices to the value of £50.00 to people who do not clean up after their dogs and place the bags in the appropriate dog waste bins or take them home and place them in the black wheeled bin. MAXIMUM PENALTY £1,000.00. If you witness anyone allowing their dog to foul and not cleaning it up please contact:- Parish Council Dog Warden - Tel: 07833757988 or North Kesteven District Council Tel: 01529 414155.

Grit Bins
Due to the prolonged period of inclement weather the need for further grit bins has been raised. There are currently four grit bins in the village, located at High Street, Fen Road and two on Prince's Street. The Parish Council have already requested bins to be installed at, Caroline Road and Hall Yard. We have also received further requests for new bins to be installed at Shiregate and Fen Lane. The Parish Council have passed the information to Lincolnshire County Council as they are responsible for purchasing, installing and re-stocking the bins. Each site will be assessed on its own merits and approval given only to locations where there is an identifiable and heightened risk. LCC are currently reviewing their winter maintenance service.

Parish Council Surgery
The Parish Council want to be more accessible to members of the public. We want to hear your views. This year surgeries will be held on the following Saturdays 6 March, 5 June, 4 September and 11 December, at the INFO-Links Office, High Street, Metheringham 10.00am - 12.00pm. If you have any questions or queries for the Parish Council, relating to any issues or suggestions you have about the village, please drop in on one of the above dates.

Recreation fields
The Parish Council is still in negotiations with Lincolnshire County Council. The Parish Council and County Council Solicitors are in consultation to finalize the details of the Heads of Terms agreement for the lease of the Star & Garter field for use by the Metheringham Primary School. Unfortunately there are some issues which the Parish Council cannot accept. Therefore this has not progressed and we cannot report any positive actions. Metheringham Parish Council are totally committed to providing better facilities for the community.
