Metheringham Primary School News Spring 2010
Christmas festivities contributed to a busy end of Term 2 for the children at Metheringham Primary School. Our Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 pupils participated enthusiastically in the Christmas production of the Jolly Christmas Postman. The play was written by the infant staffing team and incorporated the adventures of the Jolly Postman travelling to deliver a special gift to a special baby, some singing, dancing and a lot of planned and unplanned humour!
Our school choir sang at the village Christmas carol service at the Methodist Church and also at the village library. All of our pupils were involved at the end of term carol service for school helpers. Teas and coffees were served along with delicious mince pies baked by the Year 1/ Year 2 pupils.
We were entertained to the pantomime Dick Whittington performed by a local theatre company. Staff and pupils were delighted by the singing, dancing, acting, puppetry and magic that the show offered. Audience participation was expected and this revealed a few 'little stars' who confidently took part in the pantomime and had us all smiling.
Parents visited school for Lower Key Stage 2's World War 2 afternoon. Pupils shared their learning with their parents and then invited parents to join them in an 'old time waltz'. Upper Key Stage 2 parents were invited into school for a 'Groovy Greek' afternoon. Parents were invited to sample food from the Greek Taverna and share their children's learning and topic work. In Early Years parents attended school to watch the children's Super Hero animations and puppet shows.
Term 2 ended with snow which started to fall just as the children left the school. Little did we know that the snow would continue into the New Year and be the main focus for the beginning of Term 3. We were thankful that the school only had to close for part of one day and that the pupils were able to enjoy time in the snow. Our snowman competition resulted in all of the Key Stage 2 classes coming first equal! We had a wonderful array of snowmen and snow families and one class produced a very creative snow penguin in his own igloo.
The school has now achieved healthy school status and we are looking forward to being presented with our award in March. My congratulations go to Mrs Freeman who worked hard on the healthy schools' submission and to all of our pupils, past and present, who have contributed towards this award.
