Silver Sounds Band Update Spring 2010
A busy December saw players from the Band performing all the way up to and including Christmas Day in order to raise funds for the coming year. This fabulous effort resulted in over £1000 being raised and the Band would like to thank the management, staff members and customers of the following organisations for their generosity and support - Budgens Store, Waddington, Scarf & Goggles and Mowgli Indian Restaurant, Metheringham; Red Lion, Dunston and the George, Langworth - as well as local individuals who made donations to the Band during the festive season. The Band also provided the music for several carol services, and would like to thank Branston Parish Church for the generous donation for the Band's performance there.
New Uniforms!
The Band is delighted to announce that they have been awarded a Grassroots Grant through the Lincolnshire County Foundation in order to purchase uniforms and banners. The grant is over £3500 and will allow the Band to provide each player with a waistcoat for formal engagements, polo shirt for informal events and a waterproof fleece for those cold outdoor events, as well as a music stand banner. Each item will be embroidered with the new Band emblem which has been designed by Sophie Primett, who plays Principal Cornet. The players are looking forward to putting on a concert to launch their new look.
The Band is always welcoming of new members; whether you already play a brass instrument or would like to learn, we would love to hear from you. It only costs £15/quarter to join (around £1/week!) and you will receive tuition if required, the loan of an instrument, music, and uniform items, as well as the opportunity to learn new skills and to become a member of a fantastic local music-making activity.
