Spires & Steeples Challenge
October saw another successful Spires & Steeples Challenge Event with almost 400 runners and walkers taking part. The event attracted people from as far away as Edinburgh, Manchester and an entire running club coming from London!
A charity event in aid of Wheel Appeal, the Challenge follows the Spires & Steeples Arts and Heritage Trail from Lincoln to Sleaford, winding through many of the villages along the way. With the option of running or walking the entire trail of almost 26 miles or halfway to the village of Metheringham, there is something to suit most abilities.
Countryside Promotion Officer, Theresa Hobbs said "The comments from those taking part were excellent, saying how much they enjoyed our countryside and the local hospitality. A few also commented on the kindness of one resident near to Potterhanworth who had taken the time to set out a table with refreshments on.
It is things like this that can turn this into a really enjoyable event with a lovely friendly atmosphere. On behalf of everyone involved in the event I would like to say a big thank you to this person.
It would be terrific if we could get more people from the local communities involved next year, whether it is an encouraging cheer as the Challengers pass through the villages or even supplying the odd fairy cake or flapjack. The one constant request has been for more refreshments along the way and I am sure there are lots of fantastic bakers out there!"
