Nocton Dairy Farm - Facebook site

Nocton Dairies Ltd are proposing to build a large diary farm holding over 8000 cattle on Nocton/Dunston Heath. It will be the first time that such a large capacity farm has been built in the UK. The planning application has aroused controversy and is polarising local opinion.

Nocton Dairies on their own website outline some of what they are planning and have including a FAQ section where they answer some questions about their plans.

Facebook, the social networking site, has a very active page (over 4000 members) regarding the proposal.

You don't have to be a Facebook member to read the comments . You do have to be a member if you want to contribute to the discussion.

Opponents of the proposal have published an information leaflet

There's also an e-Petition on the Government's own site.

This proposal is appalling. Cows are not intended to be kept in in giant sheds with no freedom to move around. Cows should be allowed to graze in meadows and deserve a life of contentment, not just used as a milking machine, to produce litre after litre of milk and being pumped with antibiotics and forever pregnant. I hope this proposal is denied.

We need to be moving away from the factory farm and more to a traditional dairy farm.

This proposal by Nocton should be consigned to the rubbish bin.

I've just looked at Nocton Dairies website - it's woefully out of date - they clearly haven't updated what was only one page of text ... doesn't say much for their wish to keep people informed.
