Metheringham News 10th June 2010

From Dot Howes

Local householder Steven Ward was recently rewarded for his quick thinking action and bravery in apprehending the thief at a break-in on Drury Street in July 2009. Steven was presented with a Public Appreciation Certificate by Lincolnshire Chief Constable Richard Crompton. Only a handful of these certificates are presented in the UK each year and the award came from Lincolnshire Police Authority. The person apprehended was convicted and is serving two years community service for the break-in.

Metheringham and District outdoor heated pool is now open for the summer. The usual sessions have not changed from last year but at the moment there are no qualified instructors available to teach swimming at the pool on a Friday evening. If anyone knows anyone who could be approached please contact Dian Robinson on 01526 321581 as soon as possible. Friday night lessons have been a popular feature of the pool for most of its life and are vital in helping ensure that all the young people in the area can swim before they go up to secondary school which is part of the pool's reason for being. The pool committee is currently very depleted which means keeping the pool open at all is in jeopardy unless more volunteers come forward with their support.

The Pre-School are holding a quiz night on Friday June 18th at 8.00p.
m. in the Scout Hut. Tickets are £2.00 per head.

Metheringham have been entered into the Best Kept Villages and Small Towns competition run by Community Links.
