Metheringham WI Update Summer 2010

First of all a thank you to Jean Simpson for continuing the flow of information about WI activities for the church magazine during my absence.

The February meeting was a talk by Alan Porter about his life as an auctioneer and cricket enthusiast, the valued antiques and collected cricket memorabilia.

The AGM was in March with the committee re-elected en bloc, including Audrey Webb, continuing as President. The rest of the evening was devoted to a frenetic game of Bag Beetle (ask Audrey to explain the rules!) followed by refreshments.

The speaker at the April meeting was Sean Barkes who practised traditional Chinese Medicine. He treated many ailments using acupuncture.

The sports activities continue to be popular, darts, table tennis and Ten-pin bowling, also golf.

Some members attended both the Annual Spring Council Meeting in Spalding and the Phoenix Group Meeting held in Rauceby. There was also a theatre visit to Lincoln Theatre Royal.

The Summer outing is to Holkham Hall on Thursday 15 July.

Future Meetings

  • 19 May - Resolutions - talk and discussion

  • 16 June - Navigation House, Sleaford - talk by Tony Kitson

  • 21 July - Marion Foers giving talk about Beatrice Potter as a storyteller and illustrator

  • 18 Aug - Gift Wrapping by Jane Means

  • 15 Sept- Open Evening - Around the World in 80 Pictures by Steve Lovell

It is a pleasure to see so many new members and I am sure there is something to interest everyone. Audrey and her committee work hard.
