Silver Sounds Band Update Summer 2010
Monday 16 August - Friday 20 August
Spend a week having fun and learning a new skill. Come to the Silver Sounds Band Summer School and start learning how to read music and how to play a brass band instrument; try them all (cornet, flugel, tenor horn, baritone, euphonium, trombone, or even a bass tuba!) and choose your favourite. Instruments and expert tuition provided FREE.
The Silver Sounds Band Summer School has been arranged during the school holidays as the Band hope that youngsters will be interested in learning to play, and to join the Band. However, the Summer School is not limited to children, and people of all ages are welcome to come along. If you have ever thought about learning to play a brass instrument, or if you have played in the past and would like to try again, this is the perfect opportunity. The Band tutors will be on hand to show you how to read music and to play your choice of instrument. The week will conclude with the chance to sit in and play in a short concert with the rest of the Band. The Band School will take place at the Village Hall in Dunston, from 10.30am - 3pm daily.
Make the most of this opportunity - book your place now by contacting Helen & Roy Duncan on 01526 323860 or email: brassylady@btinternet.com
The Summer School is free of charge, and ongoing tuition for Band members is also free and is offered on a Friday evening. Membership of the Band costs around £1/week and includes loan of instrument and music. Band practice is on Tuesday evenings at 6.30 - 8pm.
New players are always welcome - if you are interested in joining the Band but are unable to attend the Summer School please contact Helen Duncan as above.
Lincoln Music Festival 2010
In March this year two players from the Band entered solo classes at the Lincoln Music Festival - Sophie Primett (16) played Cornet by Candlelight in the Brass Solo up to year 13 class, and Sophie Fox (9) played Shepherd's Delight (up to year 6). Both gave brilliant performances, and both were awarded 2nd place in their respective classes. Well done to the Sophies!
New Gazebo!
The Band is delighted to announce that they have been awarded a Community Development Grant through the Lincolnshire County Council in order to purchase a gazebo. The grant is over £2300 and will allow the Band to provide shelter for players and instruments at outside engagements. It will also enhance the sound of the Band at these engagements and allow the Band to play when the weather is not being kind!
Booking the Band
Just a word about booking the Band - if you would like the Band to play at any event you are organising please give as much notice as possible (contact details as above). The Band does usually make a charge for performing and all money goes directly to the Band in order to support the running costs.
