At their July meeting Metheringham WI members were taken back to Victorian London and the early 20th century Lake District with Marion Foers' tales of Beatrix Potter; the English author, illustrator, mycologist and conservationist. Mrs Foers illustrated a fascinating and thorough talk with slides showing how locations had been used in the books and how the Lake District had been saved for the nation by Beatrix Potter and her friends.
During the business of the meeting President Audrey Webb welcomed two visitors and a new member and announced that this brought the membership up to 50. Members had enjoyed the visit to Holkham Hall and were asked where they would like to go next year. The "Olympics" had been well supported despite a very unseasonally cold afternoon and thanks were expressed to Mr and Mrs Simpson for their hospitality.
There had been complaints about the Italian lunch and refund vouchers have been issued. More Ten Pin bowling will be organised for August.
The Skidpan afternoon is oversubscribed so members may be balloted out unless further days can be arranged. Members were reminded to start collecting tombola items and making things for sale at the fayre and Feast The competition was for something beginning with E and Mary Goddard's éclairs came first with Kathy Mandell's contribution second. The Flower of the month was won by Mary C with her rose, Ronnie Wright was second and Paula Hill third.
The meeting on 18th August will feature Jane Means showing members about gift wrapping and will begin at 7.15p.m. in the village hall.

Metheringham Animal Welfare Supporters group will be holding their Annual General Meeting and distribution of funds on Monday 16th August at Martin Moor Golf Club. The meeting starts at 7.30p.m. with doors open at 7.00p.m. to allow for paying of subscriptions which remain at
£1 and cover insurance and allow a member to vote at the meeting.
The recipients for the 2009-2010 year will be Weirfield Wildlife Hospital, The Ark Retirement Home for Dogs and Cats, Hedgehog Care at Authorpe and Lincoln Cat Care. Voting will take place during the evening for recipients for the 2010-2011 fundraising.
