Spires & Steeples Challenge - 17 October 2010

Do you enjoy walking in the countryside? Do you relish the challenge of running 26 miles across country? Or do you simply like to watch and marvel at the stamina of others?

If you fit any of the above then the 3rd annual Spires & Steeples Challenge taking place on Sunday 17 October 2010 is for you. Walk or run the entire 26 miles from Lincoln to Sleaford or the shorter 13 mile section from Metheringham to Sleaford enjoying the beautiful artworks and picturesque villages and communities along the route or help us make this a safe and successful event by volunteering as a marshal.

The Spires & Steeples Challenge (sponsored by Ringrose Law, Lincolnshire Co-op, FirstAid4Sport and John Hobbs Osteopath) attracted over 400 participants last year, coming from as far away as Edinburgh, Swansea, Liverpool and London as well as regional and local towns. We're expecting even more people this year!

You could act as a marshal along the route, record the walkers/runners at the checkpoints or simply help with handing out refreshments and cheering the participants along. We have checkpoints at Branston, Metheringham, Digby, Ruskington and Leasingham Moor as well as the Lincoln Castle start, Metheringham Playing Fields start and Sleaford finish. If you live in or near any of these villages and can help out on the day please contact Jayne Olney via her email eventsofficer@leisureconnection.co.uk to get more detail.

Maybe you are a keen walker or runner and ready to take the 26 mile Challenge, or perhaps you'd like to have a go at the shorter 13 mile distance first. Get your running shoes or walking boots at the ready and start training for this fantastic local event. Following footpaths and bridleways, negotiating stiles and kissing gates, this route really does offer an interesting alternative to the usual road race as well as giving you the chance to pass through all the lovely villages along the Spires & Steeples Arts and Heritage Trail. Download an application form from www.spiresandsteeples.com or receive a copy via email or in the post by contacting eventsofficer@leisureconnection.co.uk or telephoning 01522 694 353.

So either volunteer your help or get your running shoes and walking boots at the ready and start training for yet another fantastic local event.
