Dunston School News Winter 2010
The new school year started with a visit from the Bishop of Lincoln, the Right Reverend John Saxbee. I invited him to conduct services of dedication at the mosaics outside both Dunston Primary and Digby Primary to symbolize the successful Federation between the two schools. He was wonderful with both children and staff as he toured the schools afterwards and made a big impact on everyone. On 19 September we met the Bishop again as our school choir was invited to sing at the Communion service in St. Peter's Church led by Bishop John. He included the children in the service at all times, a morning that they will never forget!
At the end of September, we all enjoyed the Scarecrow Weekend. I visited on the Saturday when Dunston village was teeming with people. The atmosphere was very special and, of course, the quality of the scarecrows was again excellent. Thank you to Kay and everyone else who worked so hard to make the weekend such a success.
On 7 October Class 3 enjoyed a fascinating trip to a mosque in Peterborough. The children all said that they learned a lot from the visit and it really broadened their understanding of the Muslim faith.
On 20 October the pupils had a fantastic Cluster Day (which we hold every year) when our children mix together with children from Digby, Potterhanworth and Nocton schools. This year they enjoyed a variety of activities such as fun Forensic Science at Branston Community College, visits from the police, fire service and road safety partnership at Dunston and sports coaches at Digby.
We are now beginning to look forward to a variety of Christmas events. The Christmas Fayre takes place in the school at 3.15 on Friday 3 December. We will be holding the school's Carol Service on Monday, 13 December in St. Peter's Church. Finally we will be taking the whole school to the panto at Lincoln Theatre Royal (we can't miss Cannon and Ball!) on Wednesday, 15 December.
Best wishes,
Graham Boyall - Headteacher
