Metheringham WI Update Winter 2010
Membership of the Metheringham WI has risen to 56 - a further extension could soon be needed in the village hall to accommodate us.
The highlight of 2010 has to be our visit to Thursford's Christmas Spectacular in November.
Events since the Autumn Issue of this magazine include our Open Meeting in September when we were treated to a World Tour in 80 Slides by Steve Lovell - concluding at Donna Nook - the Lincolnshire home of seals.
October saw our Game Evening and November a talk by John Malindine on training dogs to help the deaf.
The year will conclude with our Christmas Social on 15 December with refreshments, carols, games and Santa's Sack.
The year has seen the usual sporting activities such as darts, table tennis, ten-pin bowling, a golf day, plus theatre and film visits.
The Metheringham WI finished a creditable 4th out of 21 at the Make, Bake and Show, held at Hubbert's Bridge Community Centre. A lot of hard work by our members, as demonstrated by the contributions of photographs, art, needlework, cakes, cards and flower displays. We also had a stall at the recent Metheringham Fayre & Feast with another successful tombola and sale of cakes, jams, pickles and cards. All the "girls" looked very attractive in their mob-caps.
By the time you read this we will have held our Table-Top Sale, and hopefully it will have been successful. Our Christmas dinner is on Wednesday 19 January when we will herald in 2011 at Martin Moor Golf Club.
In closing we thank Audrey, the committee and members for making 2010 another enjoyable and successful year
Jill Spooner.
