News from Metheringham Library Winter 2010

We had another very successful time selling discarded books at Metheringham Feast. To fit in with the topic of heroes and heroines we decided to go for an Ancient Greek theme, three of us wearing matching Greek goddess wigs and Judith opting for a wreath of laurel leaves.

We have decided that Jacki cannot carry on with story time as, despite repeated pleas, we still only get one little girl turning up each week. So, in future, we will only be having specific themed story times which will be advertised as such.

It's time to be thinking about the next computer course run by Lincoln College, which will be starting after Christmas. The 4 courses they run at the library, depending on demand, are Internet Email & Word Processing, Presentations & Microsoft Publisher, Spreadsheets & Databases and an Introduction to Digital Photography. They have introduced a charge of £25 for 10 weeks but their publicity states that concessions do apply, so, for further information on the courses, please contact the Community Team on 01522 876258 or e-mail them on communityeducation@lincolncollege.ac.uk

We gave Mel a brilliant send off on her last day of work on 27 October, having an open afternoon which carried on to seven o'clock. From 2pm the library was full of customers and library staff and I think she was quite overwhelmed that so many people came to wish her well. Amongst other presents we gave her an apron with Retired Librarian printed on it which she wore with an added sticker saying 'almost' for her last three hours at work. Not that she did any work, nor did we expect her to. I was fine until 7pm when I did cry as we have worked together for 26 years and, as Mel said that was half of her marriage.

We are having a Christmas coffee morning on Friday 17 December from 10 am to 12 noon. Please come along and have a drink and a mince pie.
