1st Metheringham Scout Group Update Summer 2011

News from 1st Metheringham Scout Group

The last 3 months have been busy with activities and not forgetting all the bank holidays we have just had.

The Scouts have completed a survival camp weekend at Woodhall Spa. Activities to name but a few included building shelters, making fires, an evening trek (to count the stars), and cooking their food for themselves within each of their groups.

As stated in the last MACLA quarterly magazine, Andrew Peall and explorer Scouts were doing a sponsored 60mile walk from Caistor to Lincoln, to raise money to help our County Scout Explorers with finance and send them to Sweden for the world Jamboree. This was to be done in 3 legs and camping on Friday and Saturday nights.

On the second leg Andrew and the explorers were joined by three leaders from the Scout Group to camp for a night and complete the second leg with the explorers, they were: Deborah Peall, Deborah Lincoln, and Anita Garrick.

I am glad to say the walk was successful with some tired legs at the end but congratulations to all who took part in the walk and also to all who helped and gave support to a worthy cause.

The 14 May saw our regular yearly Group sponsored walk, this time from Lincoln Minster back to the Metheringham Scout Hut.

The Scouts started the first leg to meet up the Cubs at Branston Co-op, then to meet on the green outside Nocton School to join with the Beavers for the last leg to our hut where they were greeted by the Scout Chairman, Malcolm Wallace and his cooks, Dave Bellamy and Karen Wallace with drinks and a BBQ.

A total of 11 adults and 58 kids completed the walk. Scouts all around the world were walking on this day (at different times of course) to celebrate JOTT (Jamboree on the trail). Thank you to all those that helped, supported and sponsored the kids.

Some events we are planning for at present are Family camp weekend 30th September at Sherbrooke Camp in Nottinghamshire and summer Camp 23rd July near Norwich.
Across all the leaders sections they are planning various activities, canoeing weekend, parascending (parents don't be alarmed - this activity will be aimed at the Scout Section), Beaver camping at Woodhall Spa, London trip etc. These will be confirmed and details sent out closer to the time.

As we approach our AGM, we will be losing some of our leadership team and executive committee members, so once again we need support from the parents or anyone wishing to join us on a consistent and regular basis.

If you would like more information about our group or better still would like to volunteer, please phone Pete Lincoln on 01526 321055/01526 322172 (All volunteers are CRB checked).
