Blankney Cricket Club Update Summer 2011

By the time this reaches you the cricket season will be well and truly underway.
The club has three teams this year with a change of leadership for two of them. The Saturday team again plays in the South Lincs and Border League with Ian Holvey taking over as captain. The Sunday side who play in the Lincoln League will be captained by Cameron Donald. The Blankney Estates midweek team continues as last year with Simon Atkinson at the helm.

Pre-season indoor nets have taken place at RAF Digby and our thanks go to the Commanding Officer for allowing us the use of their excellent facilities. Since the arrival of the better weather and lighter nights we have also been netting each Wednesday evening with an excellent turnout of younger players giving us great hope for the future. Hopefully with all the practice we have had we will be able to hit the ground running as the season progresses.

Over the weekend of the 8/9/10 April the club participated in the Nat West Cricket Force Weekend. This enabled us to get players and supporters down to the ground to carry out much needed maintenance work on the pavilion. We achieved a great deal with the outside of the pavilion being completely repainted and the kitchen tiled and repainted. In addition to this the whole of the front veranda, which was gradually rotting away, has been completely replaced together with metal rails replacing the old wooden ones. If anyone has seen the results of this work I am sure you will agree that the pavilion looks a picture. Thanks go to everyone who turned up, especially the younger players, which allowed us to get so much completed. Bacon/Sausage baps were served each day, which went down very well.

On the 23 April we hosted a pre-season friendly against Long Sutton and this was followed by a social evening. Forty members/friends/supporters of the club attended and were served homemade pies/mushy peas and jacket potatoes followed by various fruit crumbles. All the pies and crumbles were made by Sally Holvey and thanks go to her for the superb food which everyone enjoyed. This also raised some much needed funds.

As usual David Pearse has been toiling away on the ground and it is now in pristine condition without a mole hill in sight.

Everyone is welcome at the club on match days and there can not be many better places locally to sit and have a drink on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon/evening plus you get to watch a game of cricket as well.

All our fixtures and details about the club can now be found on our website at www.blankneycc.com.

In closing the club wish to thank Blankney Estates for their continued support, as without them there would be no cricket at Blankney.
